First, one must find a good domain name. Common words are best and the shorter the better, the names are more general and those searching can use them. In addition facts like spelling and hyphenating makes a big difference in the sale of a domain name.

Before worrying about the sale of your domain name you need to first register it. Awhile back it would cost one $70 to register for a total of 2 years. Now you can find registrations totaling as little as $14 a year.

Some believe the most effective place to sell your domain names are on auction sites such as Ebay.com.  One can also use a broker that will list the name for free and charge a fee when the name is sold. Others do charge a fee to list. Research these firms online because brokerage firms for domain names are still fairly new. Therefore, statistics on their successes can be hard to come by.

If you would rather, you can independently sell your domain name. To do this you can sit and wait for offers to come to you, you can create a web page announcing the sale of your domain names or create a site and post a notice that the name and site are for sale.

In any event, there is money to be made in the sell of a domain name.
